It’s just come to light that 711 million email addresses and passwords have just been hacked and leaked online! I have included the original newspaper article at the bottom of the page.
I have also included the link below to a site where you can enter your email address and it will then tell you if you have been affected.
If your email address is unlucky enough to have been hacked, it will show you which email address it is and what program it was used for e.g Dropbox (sometimes it’s an account you created years ago and have completely forgotten about). Please log in to those programs and change your program passwords immediately. Don’t forget to change your email address password too. Don’t worry if you can’t remember your password for the program. There is usually a ‘forgot password’ option on the log in page.
The site to check your email address is: haveibeenpwned.com
I’ve had some Facebook questions asking is it legitimate, because in this day and age it’s better to be cautious. This site was set up by a security expert in 2013 to allow the general public to see if their data has been compromised. More information if needed about this site can be found here on Wiki.
Remember you have to log in directly to that program and find it’s account settings to change your password. The same applies for the program’s website if you want to change the password that way. Both have the same effect. You do that by opening a new browser window and logging in to the program, so you can then rest assured the site below has no impact on your password changes whatsoever.
